Market Place Unveils Ambitious 5-Story Food Hall with 16 Kitchens in London’s West End This December

London’s vibrant West End is set to welcome a significant new culinary destination this December with the grand opening of Market Place’s flagship food hall in Leicester Square. This expansive, five-story venue promises to be one of the UK’s largest and most ambitious food hall experiences, featuring 16 independent kitchens, three dessert counters, and three distinct bars.

Market Place, a company founded in 2020, has rapidly grown its presence across London, with existing sites in Vauxhall, Harrow, Peckham, and St Paul’s. The Leicester Square location represents their most central and significant expansion to date, described by Blake Henderson, managing director at Market Place Food Halls, as “the biggest leap forward yet”.

A Multi-Level Culinary Experience

The new food hall will occupy a five-storey building adjacent to the iconic Odeon cinema in Leicester Square. Restaurants and food vendors will be spread across these multiple levels, offering a diverse array of global cuisines. While specific traders for the flagship site have not yet been announced, Market Place’s existing venues feature popular concepts such as Neapolitan pizza, tacos, burgers, and Thai dishes. The company has a stated ambition to be the “fastest growing food hall in the country”.

More Than Just Food: Entertainment and Atmosphere

Beyond its extensive culinary offerings, Market Place Leicester Square aims to be a comprehensive entertainment hub. The venue will boast an events space equipped with a large screen, suitable for screenings, comedy nights, live music, and DJ sets. Additionally, private dining rooms will be available for those seeking to host exclusive gatherings or after-work drinks. The ground floor and a balcony overlooking Leicester Square will serve as prime spots for drinks, complementing the overall vibrant atmosphere.

Enhancing London’s Food Hall Scene

The opening arrives at a time when food halls are experiencing a significant resurgence in London and across the UK. With a growing consumer demand for diverse, high-quality food experiences in communal settings, Market Place’s latest venture is poised to become a major attraction. Henderson stated that the flagship venue embodies “everything Market Place stands for: Incredible food, great drinks, live entertainment and a space where Londoners and visitors can celebrate together”. The West End, a prime location known for its entertainment and high footfall, is anticipated to benefit from this new gastronomic and social destination.

This development is part of a broader trend of major food hall openings in London, with other recent and upcoming venues like Boxhall City and Market Halls Paddington also contributing to the city’s evolving culinary landscape. The emphasis on independent traders and a dynamic atmosphere aligns with current trending food scenes that prioritize global flavours, sustainability, and unique dining experiences.

Market Place Leicester Square is set to open its doors in December 2025, promising to significantly enhance the dining and entertainment options available in the heart of London’s West End.
