The United Kingdom and Ireland are experiencing a significant surge in film and high-end television production throughout July 2025, with a diverse array of major projects currently underway.

Literary Adaptations and Fan Favorites Take Center Stage

Jane Austen’s beloved novel “Sense And Sensibility” is receiving a fresh adaptation, helmed by director Georgia Oakley. Produced by the renowned Working Title and November Pictures, this period drama is set to film across the UK from July and will continue for an unspecified duration. Focus Features is attached as the distributor, and the project boasts a stellar cast led by Daisy Edgar-Jones.

Fans of fantasy are also in for a treat with the long-awaited sequel to the 1998 cult classic, “Practical Magic.” Titled “Practical Magic 2,” the film is directed by Susanne Bier and produced by Denise Di Novi. Principal photography is taking place at the prestigious Warner Bros. Leavesden studios, with Warner Bros. distributing the film. The sequel reunites original stars Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, who will be joined by Joey King.

High-Profile Remakes and Original Content Underway

A reimagining of the iconic 1968 romantic heist film, “The Thomas Crown Affair,” is currently in production. Visionary director Michael B. Jordan is at the helm, with AGBO and Outlier Society producing. Filming commenced in July at Elstree Studios and is expected to continue for an ongoing period. Amazon MGM Studios is handling distribution, and the film features a compelling cast including Michael B. Jordan himself, Taylor Russell, and Lily Gladstone.

Adding to the slate of engaging content, the feature film finale of the incredibly popular LGBTQ+ teen romance series “Heartstopper” is actively filming in the UK. Having started in June, production is ongoing, with Netflix serving as the distributor. The final installment stars the much-loved duo Kit Connor and Joe Locke.

Thrills and Mystery in UK Studios

Bringing a dose of action and survivalist drama, “Breaking Cover” is a new film produced by Sankara Media. Directed by Adrian Bol, the story follows a father-daughter hunting trip that escalates into a desperate fight for survival. Filming began in June and is continuing throughout the UK. WestEnd Films is managing international sales for the project, which stars Scott Adkins in a leading role.

Adding to the mystery and anticipation, an untitled project from acclaimed producer and director J.J. Abrams is also in active production. Spearheaded by his production company Bad Robot in collaboration with Warner Bros., details regarding the plot remain closely guarded secrets. The project’s filming locations and timeline are also currently undisclosed.

Blockbuster Series Continues Filming

Further bolstering the UK’s status as a global production powerhouse, the critically acclaimed fantasy series “House of the Dragon” has returned to Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden for the filming of its third season. This highly anticipated installment of the “Game of Thrones” prequel continues to draw significant resources and talent to the region, underscoring the continued demand for high-end television production.
